Putin: War in Ukraine is Going 'According To Plan'

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that the war in Ukraine "is going according to plan," in a statement to his Security Council broadcast on state television.

"The special military operation in Ukraine is going according to plan, in strict accordance with the schedule," Putin said, using the euphemism the Kremlin uses to describe the invasion of Ukraine. "All tasks are being carried out successfully."

Putin speaks about the war in Ukraine on national television after meeting with Russia's Security Council on Thursday.

He began his speech by praising the Russian soldiers for their courage during the Russian operation in Ukraine.

He also called for a minute of silence to honor the Russian servicemen who died during this operation.

Putin calls Ukrainians and Russians one people

Putin also called Ukrainians and Russians one people in his remarks on the situation in Ukraine, after the Russian Security Council meeting.

"I will never stop believing that the Russians and the Ukrainians are one people. Despite the fact that a part of the Ukrainians were threatened and deceived by Nazi nationalist propaganda, and some, of course, consciously followed the bandits, those Nazi henchmen who fought on Hitler's side during World War II," Putin said.

Scholars and observers say that Putin has distorted Ukrainian and Soviet history to create a narrative to justify the war against Ukraine.
